Sandwich Wrap
What we wrap our sandwiches in every day for lunch and what we cover our food with to warm has become a great concern to many of us. Once we starting hearing of the dangers of plastic and the possibility of leaching, we had to re-think the plastics in our house. So many plastics are used in our kitchens with and around the food we consume. We use plastic glasses to drink from, plastic pitchers to store our juice in, plastic plates and bowls to eat off of, plastic bowls to store leftovers in and plastic wrap to cover our food to it fresh. Plastic sandwich wrap is also used to wrap your sandwiches and other items in your lunches that you take to school or work every day. This thin sheet of plastic we use as a sandwich wrap so often breaks down easily and has the possibility to leach into our food, especially if heated in the microwave. Heating the sandwich wrap when it is covering your food is when it breaks down very quickly, releasing harmful chemicals from the plastic into your food that you then eat. I guess nowadays we have to be more worried what is under or around our food while warming with less emphasis on trying to prevent a mess in the microwave. Over time, with years of using sandwich wrap this way you will expose yourself to a lot of plastic leaching and its effects, which are not all totally known yet. With a great deal of research studying the harmful effects of plastic leaching; there are more and more findings that are scary and not good for us at all. We need to make a lot of changes around what we eat our food on, how we warm our food and the sandwich wrap we are using.
With the above research findings and people being more concerned with their health; came changes in the sandwich wrap world. It is really tough finding a sandwich wrap that keeps your food really fresh and is totally safe to be touching our food. Many different inventions have been made but are either not convenient to use or no safer. Stainless steel is great and very safe to store your food or sandwich in but takes a little longer washing by hand to keep them good for a long time. Glass containers are also very safe, do not break down or leach but they are really heavy and may break causing injury for smaller children. Using simply a natural material like organic cotton, hemp or bamboo are 100% safe for your food and storage but breathe and therefore do not keep your food fresh for any period of time.
