Generation Green: Who are These Eco-Minded People?

You have heard of Generation X and the Baby Boomers…but who is Generation Green? Generation Green, which is a movement toward green products, is being headed by the CPO (Chief Purchasing Officer) of the household. It is generally an educated and eco-sensitive, career-driven woman who is financially secure.

The CPO makes up the largest portion of Generation Green. Generations X and Y will also have a large impact on the green movement due to the peak of spending on homes and remodeling in the next few years.

And what are the reasons for the green movement? The main motivating factors here are energy (and monetary) savings, the preservation of natural resources, and the quality of natural products as well as the indoor air quality.

Studies show that people are willing to pay more for the Energy Star logo as long as the price increase is no more than five percent. The long-term effects of buying energy-efficient appliances include a decrease in use of energy; thus, a decrease in utility bills. Another benefit is that they will own a luxury item while being conscious of the environment.

Generation Green is internet-savvy – therefore, they have access to information on high-efficiency and eco-friendly products. In fact, they rely on the internet. This is because they are able to compare brands and prices before buying a product.

Generation Green will continue to grow as people become more educated on the green movement. Green issues are becoming more urgent in today’s world. What can you do to become a part of Generation Green? To start with, learn all that you can about the green movement toward green products.

The internet is a wonderful resource for information on the green movement. Begin by researching ways to save energy in your home. Start recycling. Support local businesses – restaurants, grocery stores, theaters. Go online and research eco-friendly products before buying. Learn ways to reclaim or reuse items you already have by transforming them into new items. Again, the internet is a great tool for learning about the green movement.

And this is only the beginning. Generation Green will continue to grow and you can become a part of the movement of green products. No matter how old or young you are, or how rich or poor, you can be a part of Generation Green.
